When installing any timber flooring system there will be a requirement to cover the
expansion gap around the perimeter of the floor area. It is preferable to install
skirting boards over this area once the Boardwalk system has been completed.
In cases where this is inconvenient or where a builder insists on installing
the skirting boards prior to the Boardwalk installation,
the following options should be considered.
|
1. Skirting - Shadow Line
This effect can be achieved using 2 different methods.
- The skirting boards can be fixed to the walls approximately 13mm above the subfloor.
- A skirting board with a 13mm rebate can be fixed to the walls.
This option allows the builder to complete their works prior to the Boardwalk
flooring being installed, eliminating the need for a carpenter and/or painter
to return once the floor has been completed.

2. Skirting - Undercut with filler
In cases where existing skirting boards are difficult to remove
or are too small to accommodate a beading the skirting boards can be undercut.
This process involves trimming the skirting board, creating a channel for the
Boardwalk to be installed under. Due to the nature of these works it is possible
that a caulking compound may be required to fill any discrepancies between the
skirting boards and the Boardwalk flooring.

3. Tri-Mould - Matching Skirt
Tri-Mould to match Skirting Boards - An undercoated timber beading can be
fixed to the skirting board after the installation of the Boardwalk system.
The beading can then be top-coated by a professional painter to match the
skirting board colour. A painted beading is less obvious as it becomes part of the skirting profile.

4. Tri-Mould - Matching Floor
Tri-Mould to match floor - The timber beading can be stained to suit the
floor colour. This eliminates the requirement for additional works by a painter.
Due to the natural colour variation within timber floors an exact colour match
with the flooring is not always possible.

Boardwalk Flat Strip - Matching Floor
Boardwalk flat strip to match floor colour, can be used where a low profile
timber trim is required, (e.g small skirting boards, door sills etc.). This trim is quite
popular as it is discrete and blends perfectly with the flooring.
